Embark on an unforgettable winter journey with our "Fuji Snow Ascent" expedition. This 2-day tour offers a unique opportunity to conquer Japan's iconic peak during the off-season, enjoying breathtaking snowy landscapes and a serene, less-crowded experience.
About This Climb
Our "Fuji Snow Ascent" takes you on an extraordinary adventure approaching Mt. Fuji from its eastern side. This less-traveled route offers a more intimate experience with the mountain's winter beauty. We'll begin with an overnight stay at the 5th Station (2000m), allowing for acclimatization and preparation. On Day 2, we'll make our summit push, guided by experienced mountaineers who will ensure your safety and provide expert instruction on winter climbing techniques.
Climbing Mt. Fuji in Spring
Our regular season starts in mid-July. However, it is possible to climb Mt. Fuji during the spring months. Snow often arrives in mid-October, transforming the climb from a hike into a technical mountaineering endeavor. Although we do not offer any true winter ascents, the road to the 5th Station (trailhead) typically opens at the end of April. As the days get longer and the mountain experiences milder conditions in spring, we offer tours. Though the amount of snow varies from year to year, all participants must have crampons, ice axes, and any other necessary winter mountaineering equipment.
We are happy to book you for a tour; however, please understand that there is a heightened likelihood of needing to cancel the tour due to rapidly changing weather and snow conditions. We will wait until the very last minute (the night before or the morning of the tour) to make the most informed decision on whether to proceed.

This is NOT an easy climb.
The ascent is roughly 1700 vertical meters over steep and rocky features with a large portion on snow (which can have a variety of different textures).
The average ascent time is 7 hours.
The average decent time is 4 tours.
*The cut of time to reach the summit is 8.5 hours. Your guide(s) may turn you around at any point if your pace is too slow or any reason that may compromise you and the group's safety.
Additionally Mt Fuji is infamous for its volatile weather. A climb to the summit of Mt Fuji guarantees that at one point you will be dry, wet, hot and cold. From mild spring conditions to snowy winter conditions, one should always expect for the weather to drastically change in an instant. Almost any type of weather you can imagine can be experienced at any given moment on Mt Fuji and being prepared with the necessary equipment will be key for a successful climb.
To ensure optimal comfort and safety during your snow ascent, a strategic approach to clothing is essential. Managing your thermal regulation through the dynamic adjustment of clothing layers is key. During periods of heightened physical activity, the removal of layers is crucial to mitigate perspiration and prevent subsequent chilling. Conversely, the addition of insulating layers during periods of rest or reduced activity will maintain heat. A high-performance insulating garment is indispensable for maintaining warmth during extended breaks. We strongly recommend the use of technical, quick-drying fabrics, and advise against cotton and cellulosic materials due to their moisture-retentive properties.
Not only weather! Though Mt Fuji is not at an elevation where supplementary oxygen is needed, all climbers will feel the altitude to varying degrees. Some may only experience a slight shortness of breath but other may experience dizziness, nausea or other effects of the elevation which may affect your climb.
*Serious altitude related complications are rare outlier cases on Mt Fuji.
Lastly, the amount of equipment needed on Mt Fuji tends to weigh down a large backpack (a loaded backpack weighs around 10kgs)!
Training goes a long way! It is strongly advised for you to be practicing an active lifestyle spending a lot of time on your feet. Pacing is an important part of hiking big distances and regularly training your stamina and cardio with activities such as hiking, walking, running, stairmasters and cycling will help you towards successfully reaching the summit.
Additionally it is advised to also go hiking/ walking with a 10kg backpack to simulate what you would be carrying at all times on your Mt Fuji hike.
In summation, what makes climbing Mt Fuji so difficult is its steepness, rugged/ rocky terrain, elevation, volatile weather and sheer length of climb while carrying equipment.
The night before the climb we will be staying at a mountain hut at 2000m. Though a comfortable experience with great food, it is a simple dormitory style mountain hut.
