Itinerary:
Day 1 (avg hike time: 5hrs)
You can choose to get picked up in either Gotemba or Mishima Station! (Click here to see the Meeting Point)
Day 1 starts with a pick up at 09:00 AM at Mishima Station.
We will then transfer via private van to the Fujinomiya Trailhead (2400m) via Gotemba Station (should you wish to meet up at Gotemba Train Station, the meeting time is 09:30 AM).
In Gotemba, the group makes a pit stop at our office to change, receive any rentals (if any) and get ready for the climb.
We will then drive 60 mins to the trailhead where our climb begins.
From around noon the hiking starts and the goal for the day is to climb 1300m which takes on average 5 hours.
The accommodation for the night is at an elevation of over 3500m (exact hut will depend from tour to tour) where we will enjoy a curry dinner upon arrival.
On Day 1 we need to make sure to go to sleep early as we will need to wake up in the middle of the night!
Day 2 (avg descent time: 3-4 hours)
Day 2 starts in the middle of the night as we begin our push early to make the summit in time for sunrise.
The hike time to the summit on Day 2 will differ depending on the mountain hut we are able to secure.
The summit features a Shrine (you can get your summit stamp here), gift shops and even a post office to send a unique post card. Given favorable weather, the summit offers fantastic views and the option of a walk around the crater (highly dependent on weather and energy levels).
*open times of the Shrine and shops are subject to change.
After celebrating reaching Japan's highest point, our descent begins.
Though the descent time can vary depending on the conditions, the average time is around 4-5 hours.
Reaching the base of the mountain changes as the sunrise time changes as the season progresses but on average, most groups will get back to the trailhead by around 10AM on Day 2.
From here the vans will transport you back to Gotemba Station where the tour ends.
The drive time to Gotemba is around 1 hour.
Having the right equipment will greatly increase your comfort and chances for a successfully reaching the summit. Please check our page on what to bring here.
