Frequently Asked Questions: 2 Day Mt Fuji Sunrise Group Tour

Below are our most frequently asked questions to help you plan for Mt Fuji climb in 2026.

  • Do I need to book my own 2026 climbing registration or entry fee?

No. We manage all mandatory 2026 mountain registrations and pre-pay your entry fees (¥4,000). All you need to do is book our tour and fill out our waiver form which will give us all the information we need.

  • Where do I leave my suitcases?

You can store all non-climbing luggage at our Gotemba Operations HQ for free. You only carry what you need for your climb.

  • What is the difference between the Shinjuku and Gotemba meetups:

Shinjuku: Best for those staying in Tokyo (available on select dates).

Gotemba HQ: Our primary base. Meet here at 09:00 AM for gear fitting and the final safety briefing.

  • How do I get back to Tokyo or Hakone after the tour?

The tour concludes at our Gotemba HQ midday. A couple of meters from our office is a direct bus to Shinjuku. As we are located just outside Gotemba Station, there are lots of train and bus options to Yamanakako, Hakone, Tokyo and other greater Mt Fuji areas.

  • Where should I stay the night before or after the tour?

We recommend staying in central Gotemba!

You can see the list of our recommended hotels here.

  • Should I bring any cash?

Generally all of your expenses on Mt Fuji will be covered. If you would like additional snacks, food or water (as we are hiking you will work up an appetite and be thirsty) there will be opportunities for purchase at most mountain huts however, be prepared for high elevation prices (2-3 times sea level price). Additionally, the mountain huts will also offer souvenirs. The classic Mt Fuji souvenir is a wooden walking stick (¥1000-2000) which you can get stamped at each of the huts along the way to the summit (each stamp will cost ¥200-300).

Toilets on Mt Fuji will also cost ¥200-300 as there is no plumbing and the huts need to carry everything down!

With all this in mind, its a good idea to have ¥5000-10,000 in cash with you!

  • How do I book rental equipment?

Once your tour is confirmed, you will receive a link to our rental booking form. Your gear will be waiting for you at our Gotemba HQ on Day 1 of your tour.

  • What gear do I need?

In order to give yourself the best chances for summiting, it is important to have all the right gear as well as making sure to be fit enough. Check out our guide on preparing for the climb here.

  • How difficult is climbing Mt Fuji

Climbing Mt Fuji is a difficult climb! Although not technical, it is all uphill with volatile weather swings. Learn more about what to expect here.

  • What if I get altitude sickness?

Our guides are experts in identifying early symptoms. Because we stay at the 3,700m crater rim, we climb slowly to maximize acclimatization. If a descent is necessary, we have safety protocols to assist you. In some cases, your guide(s) may decide to put you in a lower hut where you will get picked up on the group's descent.

*If you stay in a lower hut, additional charges may apply.

  • Can I get the "Summit Stamp" and send postcards?

Yes! Because we stay at the crater rim, you are perfectly positioned to visit the Okumiya Shrine for stamps and the Mt. Fuji Post Office (weather/opening times permitting).

  • What are the mountain huts like?

The mountain huts on Mt Fuji are simple but comfortable. All sleeping arrangement are dormitory style on bunks and is not a luxury experience. There is no running water or availability of power plugs for us but food and water are available for purchase.

Learn more on our blog post on Mt Fuji huts here.

  • Do I need a sleeping bag?

No, sleeping bags and/or blankets are provided at the mountain hut.

  • Will I be able to take a shower at the hut?

Unfortunately not! There is no running water on Mt Fuji!

  • What is the group size?

On Mt. Fuji Guides' group trips, the guide to guest ratio is 1:6.

The average number of guests is 7.

The minimum number of guests is 4 and maximum size is 15 guests.

Mt. Fuji Guides group trips have among the smallest number of participants out of all other guided group tours on Mt Fuji!
